![]() ![]() The Marvel film is expected to cross $500 million domestically on Friday and $2 billion worldwide this weekend after adding an unprecedented $562 million to its global total. It’s one of three wide releases this weekend along with Lionsgate’s comedy “ Long Shot” and STXfilms’ animated family film “ UglyDolls.” All three are opening opposite “Avengers: Endgame,” which will carry its already record-breaking first week into a similarly impressive second weekend. It opens on approximately 2,200 screens this weekend. “ The Intruder,” the new Sony/ Screen Gems thriller starring Dennis Quaid as a sinister home invader, made $865,000 in its Thursday previews from 2,073 screens. “From Pennywise to the Joker, creepy clowns have terrified people for decades. “Michael has concocted an incredibly unsettling film evocative of urban legend classics like ‘ Slender Man’ and ‘ The Blair Witch Project,’” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. That led to an outpouring of similar videos and the creation of an internet sensation that rivals Pennywise in sheer, malevolently cheery creepiness. Wrinkles went viral after a silent black and white surveillance video was uploaded to YouTube, depicting a child sleeping peacefully before a disheveled old man disguised as a clown slid out from beneath her bed. The documentary looks at a creepy clown who is hired to terrify misbehaving children in Southwest Florida. Directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Michael Beach Nichols (“ Welcome to Leith”), the film is eyeing an Oct. Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired global rights to “ Wrinkles the Clown,” Variety has learned. The official greenlight has been given for 50 States of Fright. Rachel Brosnahan, Travis Fimmel, Christina Ricci, Asa Butterfield, Jacob Batalon, Ming-Na Wen, Taissa Farmiga, John Marshall Jones and Ron Livingston are just some of the names lined up to fill 50 States of Fright’s anthology episodes, which each culling content from American urban legends and folklore. Quibi, the Jeffrey Katzenberg-backed 2020-launching streaming platform designed for short-form stories, has announced a most intriguing offering amongst its 40-project-deep backlog, a horror anthology series, titled 50 States of Fright, which has corralled quite the cast and crew, notably with genre legend Sam Raimi – the movie maestro of the Evil Dead cinematic and television franchise and crucial comic book cinema of the Spider-Man Trilogy – tapped to develop and even direct an entry. ![]() Joseph Baxter Michael Ahr 50 States of Fright, an urban legends-based horror anthology series bound for Quibi, reveals an impressive cast roster. On the film side, the actress is internationally recognized for her turn as Chloe in Universal Studios’ Pitch Perfect franchise. Rising to fame following her appearance on NBC drama series American Dreams, Snow’s TV credits include Ryan Murphy’s Nip/Tuck, David E. and Lionsgate’s Point Break remake, Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate’s Oscar-winning war film Hacksaw Ridge and acclaimed Hulu miniseries, Little Fires Everywhere. A native of Australia, Bracey is best known for turns in Netflix original rom-com Holidate, Warner Bros. Executive producers include Arclight Films’ Gary Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton and Ying Ye. A Traction and Arclight Films production, Big Nickel is produced by Traction’s Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek. A dangerous man with a bone to pick, Erik will not be satisfied until Charlie has paid a heavy price-and as pressure mounts, Charlie is ultimately forced to re-examine his dubious methods, facing a thunderous reckoning of accountability. The only person standing in his way is Erik, a disturbed ex-vet that Charlie convinced to enlist years before.
